Last year TurboTax products were used to prepare 29 million returns, while its two chief competitors, H&R Block and TaxAct, a unit of Blucora, each assisted with about 7 million self-prepared returns.Īfter the misstep, H&R Block offered a free download of its software to Intuit customers who had already purchased TurboTax Deluxe. Intuit’s reversal means that next year TurboTax Deluxe desktop software will once again include Schedules C, D, E and F.Īccording a spokeswoman, this year’s changes in the desktop software affected about 1 million TurboTax Deluxe customers. Instead, they needed to upgrade to TurboTax Premier or TurboTax Home & Business, which cost as much as $30 more than the $50 Deluxe version. Many users were surprised to find that this year’s TurboTax Deluxe software no longer allowed them to electronically file Schedule C for a business, Schedule D for capital gains and losses, Schedule E for rental property or Schedule F for a farm. At the same time, it offered a $25 payment to take the sting out of the additional cost this year-compensation which customers could claim only after filing their returns.
